Neighborhood Canvass Leads to Gas Leak and Crime Scene

April 22, 2017 by KDPS

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 22, 2017 at approximately 0745hrs, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the area of 600 block of Bosker St in reference to the report of shots fired. Minutes later, another caller in the 500 block of Lulu St reported their vehicle and shed had been damaged by gunfire.  While canvassing the neighborhood and speaking to area residents, officers learned there was an un-reported volley of gunfire heard in the area of the 600 Block of W Prouty St about 15 minutes earlier.

Officers quickly responded to the area of 600 block of W Prouty St where they encountered the strong smell of natural gas. An investigation revealed that a gas meter was struck by a bullet causing the leak. The gas meter was turned off and Officers discovered several more bullets holes on the exterior of the residence.

It is believed that each incident is related. At this time, there have been no reported injuries. The safety of the Kalamazoo Community is paramount. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994, the Criminal Investigation Division at 337-8139, or Silent Observer at 343-2100.

Authority of Sgt. David Moran
