Kalamazoo, MI: On 3-4-2017, at approximately 6:18 P.M, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1200 block of California in regards to a stolen vehicle. The victim reported a 14 year old family friend stolen her vehicle and cell phone while she was sleeping.
A short time later Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the intersection of Washington Ave. and Race St in reference to a personal injury accident. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles with heavy damage. The at-fault driver and passenger fled the scene and were located nearby. The investigation revealed the 14 year old stole the car then ran a stop sign at Washington Ave and Race striking a vehicle occupied by a 17 year old male.
The female suspect was treated and released by Life Care Paramedics. The other driver was not injured.
Kalamazoo Public Safety is still investigating the incident and officers will be seeking charges for unlawful driving away an automobile, larceny in a building, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
