Man arrested for assault causing great bodily harm

February 16, 2017 by Spencer Bridges

Kalamazoo, MI: On 2-14-2017 Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers made contact with a 38 year old assault victim at Bronson Hospital. The victim had been viciously beaten in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of E. Cork at approximately 6 p.m. The victim stated a 49 year old male and 40 year old female acquaintance assaulted her over an outstanding money debt. The male had punched the female in the face multiple times, causing facial fractures and requiring brief hospitalization.

During the investigation, it was learned the male and female suspect live together in the 100 block of Allen Street. Officers responded to the suspect’s home and he refused to answer the door. The male suspect has an extensive history of violent crime involving weapons and was known to carry a gun. Based on his past criminal history and access to weapons, the Kalamazoo Metro Tactical Team was activated to serve a search warrant at the suspects address. During service of the warrant, the male suspect exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. The second female suspect was not located inside. During the search of the home, a firearm was located inside of the residence.

The male suspect was arrested for Assault with Intent to cause Great Bodily Harm and was lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail. A warrant is being sought for the female suspect for simple assault.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have information pertaining to it, is asked to call Public Safety @ 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
