Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, January 28, 2017, at approximately 4:05 a.m., Kalamazoo Pubic Safety Officers on patrol in the area of Douglas Avenue and Paterson Street observed a passenger vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit. Officers were able to catch up with the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Ravine Road. During contact with the driver of the vehicle, officers determined the driver was possibly intoxicated. The driver of the vehicle initially refused to exit the vehicle. After convincing the driver to exit, she was arrested for Resisting and Obstructing and Operating While Intoxicated. The passenger of the vehicle was found to have an outstanding Felony and misdemeanor warrants and was arrested. During a search of the vehicle a loaded handgun was located under the passengers seat.
As a result of this investigation a 28 year old Kalamazoo woman, and a 27 year old Kalamazoo man, were both arrested. The woman was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, and Resist & Obstruct Police. The male was arrested for outstanding warrants and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Both subjects were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety would like to remind motorist of the dangers of impaired driving. According to the State of Michigan audits for the year 2015 Kalamazoo County had 285 alcohol related crashes. This number includes fatal, personal injury, and property damage crashes. Together through education and enforcement we as a community can reduce this number so that no one has to feel the effects of a loved one being involved with an alcohol related crash.
