Stolen firearm recovered from vehicle

December 28, 2016 by Spencer Bridges

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday December 25, 2016, at about 2:44 am, a Kalamazoo Safety Officer was addressing quality of life issues including crowds and reckless driving in the area of N. Westnedge Avenue and Ada Street. The officer sought to stop a white Impala for a registration and moving violation. Instead of stopping, the Impala fled at a high rate of speed through a residential area. A short time later, the officer located the vehicle unoccupied. However, the officer discovered a stolen handgun in the Impala and paperwork identifying the lessee.

A sergeant responded to assist and located three subjects walking away from the area. One subject was identified as the lessee who admitted to being the driver. The driver was arrested for a variety of charges including CCW-Auto, Fleeing and Eluding, DWLS, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. One passenger was arrested for Probation Violation and another for an outstanding warrant.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
