Kalamazoo, MI: On Thursday, October 20th, 2016, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were alerted to a report of a stabbing victim at Bronson Hospital. Responding officers located a 48 year old male with a stab wound to his back and a female companion suffering from the effects of OC Spray at the hospital. Both were treated at Bronson Hospital for their injuries; one was released and one admitted.
The victims reported that they were walking in the 100 block of E. Walnut when they struck up a conversation with an unknown male and female, asking them for a cigarette. The unknown male then became argumentative and assaulted the female victim. The Male victim then went to the aid of his companion and a struggle ensued with the male suspect. During this time, the male suspect produced a knife and stabbed the male victim in the back. The female suspect then produced a bottle of pepper spray and sprayed both the female and male victim’s in the face. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot.
A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Police K-9 was called to the scene and a track was attempted. During the track, Officers were unable to locate the suspects. Both victims walked to Bronson Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The male victim still had the knife in his back upon arrival at Bronson Hospital. The victim had serious injuries that required surgery, but his injuries are not life threatening. The female was treated and released. The victims did not know their assailants. The suspects are described as a white female and a white male, both in the mid to late 20’s. The female was last seen wearing a light colored jacked and blue jeans. The victims were unable to obtain a clothing description of the male suspect.
