On October 2, 2016, at about 0124 hours, the downtown beat officer was on foot patrol when a citizen reported a possible domestic assault. The officer located the man and women described and began an investigation. During the investigation, the officer located marijuana and sought to arrest the man. However, the officer was prevented from making the arrest by a 28 year old Kalamazoo resident who assaulted the officer and then fled on foot. The officer gave chase tackling the offender in a parking lot and took him into custody after a short struggle. The suspect in the original domestic assault / possession of marijuana investigation also fled on foot and was not positively identified.
The officer sustained minor injuries. The offender sustained minor injuries also and was treated with basic first aid. The offender was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on a charge of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer.
