Stolen Handgun Recovered

September 7, 2016 by Jon Thurn

Kalamazoo, MI: On September, 2nd 2016 around 10:12a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 3200blk of Michigamme Woods for a larceny from vehicle complaint. The victim discovered that his suitcase containing his Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun had been stolen from his vehicle. The victim gave a suspect description to responding officers of a black male and white female both in their early twenties.  Within an hour of the initial dispatch, the victim’s wallet was located by officers in the 1200blk of California. As officers were on scene the suspect was then observed leaving from a nearby apartment. Contact was made with him and during the course of the investigation, the stolen handgun was recovered from the suspects apartment. Officers searched the area locating the rest of the victim’s stolen property along with additional items from an un-reported larceny. Officers made contact with owner of the additional property who didn’t even realize it had been stolen from his car.

The suspect, a male in his twenties, was arrested for larceny from a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and for a conditional bond violation. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind citizens to please lock their car doors.

Anyone have information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
