Traffic stop leads to recovery of drugs and a firearm

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has been conducting overt directed patrols in the Campus area this week due to the anticipation of large crowds during Western Michigan University Move In week. During this time extra patrols and additional officers are tasked with handling numerous Quality of Life issues in the off campus area of W. Michigan associated with Welcome Week. On September 1st, 2016 officers observed several subjects in a car actively involved in drug use. Officers made contact with 5 occupants of the vehicle and during the investigation, marijuana was located. During a search of two of the subjects, two loaded handguns were located in the waistband of both of the subjects. Officers arrested two 21 year old males from the Flint area on charges of Carrying a Concealed weapon, Posssession of marijuana and receiving and concealing stolen property.The investigation also revealed one of the handguns was stolen. Both subjects were visting from Flint and were in town to partake in move in week festivities.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is dedicated to keeping the residents of Kalamazoo safe. We remind residents if you see something, say something.
