Vehicle shot at during disagreement

August 10, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday August 9th, 2016, at approximately 7:40 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 1300 block of Clinton St. in reference to a large crowd and reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large hostile crowd. Several more officers arrived on scene in attempts to calm the situation down.

During the investigation, witnesses explained that a disagreement had occurred between a male and three females. The three females had come to this location to confront the male about a prior assault. As the females were leaving the area in a vehicle, the male fired one shot towards the vehicle. Officers developed suspect information regarding a 17 year-old male. No injuries were reported as a result of this shooting.

Today, August 10th, 2016, Detective Jon Schippers swore to a (7) seven count warrant, listing this 17 year old Kalamazoo resident, as the suspect. Officers from the C.O.P.S and Operations Divisions collaborated tracking the suspect down in the 12000 block of E. V Ave, in Kalamazoo County. Tomorrow he will be arraigned on the (3) three counts of Felonious Assault, (1) count of CCW, and (3) counts Felony Firearm.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
