Officers address quality of life complaints

July 18, 2016 by Spencer Bridges

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, July 17, 2016 around 3:00am, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 900 block of Hays Park for numerous reports from residents in the area of a large party, noise violations and trespassing. Officers encountered a crowd of about 30 people and vehicles that refused to cooperate or allow vehicular traffic through the roadway. The crowd quickly swelled to around 150 people and became openly hostile towards the police. Officers had numerous bottles thrown at them before they were able to successfully disperse the crowd. No officers or citizens were injured during this incident.

Public Safety maintains a high commitment in addressing quality of life issues for the citizens of Kalamazoo and remains diligent in these efforts. Public Safety reminds citizens that when gathering for parties to give consideration to others in the community and to abide by the Kalamazoo City Ordinances regarding noise violations and assembly.

Public Safety encourages anyone with information regarding this incident or about additional criminal activity to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
