On July 12, 2016 around 9:00 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 2100 block of S Burdick on a 911 call regarding a larceny in progress. The caller had observed an individual breaking into their vehicle and contacted police. While officers were responding, the suspect began leaving the area and victim followed the suspect on foot. Officer Townsend was the first officer to arrive in the area and upon locating the suspect and attempting contact, the individual ran from officers. The suspect was taken into custody by Sgt Mayo and Officers Townsend and Bryant. During the course of the investigation the suspect’s apartment was searched and officers located stolen electronic equipment. The suspect is a 32 year old Kalamazoo resident. The investigation is ongoing as all of the victims have not yet been identified.
The suspect was arrested for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and attempted resisting and obstructing a police officer. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind all residents to not keep valuables in your vehicle and to report suspicious activity.
