Citizen tip leads to the recovery of drugs and money

July 8, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On July 8, 2016 around 2:30p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Steven Heyduck was conducting foot patrol in the Riverview Cops located in the 1000blk of Bridge. A resident of the complex stopped Officer Heyduck to speak with him about drug sales in the area. The citizen reported narcotics being sold from an apartment in the 1000blk of Bridge St. Officer’s Heyduck and Timothy Millard responded to the apartment where contact was made with a resident. Officers began an investigation and made entry into the residence. Once inside, officers located several pounds of processed marijuana packaged for street sales, digital scales and over $35,000 dollars in US currency. The suspect is a Kalamazoo resident in his twenties. He will be facing charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and maintaining a drug house.

This type of investigation would not have been possible without both the public and the police working together to address quality of life issues in our city. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind residents to continue to call or stop officers when they see criminal activity.

Anyone have information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
