Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, July 4, 2016, at approximately 1:59 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 4100 blk of Portage St for a report of a fire at a gas station. Upon arrival officers encountered two vehicles and a gas pump on fire.
The gas station safety system was activated, shutting down the gas pumps. The fire was then quickly extinguished using firefighting foam.
From an investigation it was determined that one of the drivers accidently ran into the gas pumps. Her vehicle then caught fire and the fire spread to a neighboring vehicle. Both vehicles are a total loss. There was also significant damage to the pumping station.
