Traffic stop leads to recovery of firearm

On June 29, 2016 Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Greg Day observed a vehicle with an improper plate on Cameron St. near Lay Blvd. Officer Day conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once the stop was initiated both the driver and passenger quickly exited the stopped car. The passenger fled the scene on foot. The driver was quickly detained. A search of the vehicle yielded a .380 caliber handgun. The driver of the vehicle, a 35 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for CCW, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and OWI- high BAC.

The passenger is described as a younger black male.
