Driver arrested after vehicle strikes utility pole on S Westnedge Ave

June 17, 2016 by Spencer Bridges

Kalamazoo, MI: On 6/16/16, shortly before midnight, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety received a 911 call for an accident in the 2100 block of S. Westnedge. Upon arrival, officers found a utility pole severed with several power lines dangerously close to the ground. The vehicle that struck the pole had come to rest after striking a home and parked car. The three occupants of the car complained of minor injuries. Residents of the damaged home were uninjured.

A second vehicle that had been traveling south on S. Westnedge received damage when it struck debris from the damaged utility pole. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured.

Due to the dangerous conditions, S. Westnedge was closed for approximately two hours until Consumers Energy could clear the wires. A new utility pole was installed a few hours later, restoring power to local homes. The driver of the vehicle, a 36 year old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for OUIL 2nd.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-1200, www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
