One killed, two injured in shooting on Mabel St

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, May 23, 2016, at approximately 10:05 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the corner of Mabel St and Westnedge Ave. in reference to a shooting. A 38 year old male was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Officers began life saving measures, while Life Ambulance transported the victim to Bronson Hospital. The Kalamazoo resident was later pronounced dead at Bronson Hospital. A second and third victim arrived at Bronson Hospital within minutes of the shooting. Both sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. At this time they are listed in stable condition. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Niquay DeJuan Baker, 10-02-77, a Kalamazoo native who was currently residing in Illinois. KDPS extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Baker.

***Update***

On Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 and into the morning hours of May 25th, Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division interviewed two persons of interest in the shooting death of Mr. Niquay Baker. At this time the names are being withheld for investigative purposes. No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to thank the community for the tips and information that has assisted with this investigation.
