Free smoke alarm installations

May 5, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is supporting an initiative of the American Red Cross to install smoke alarms into homes which do not have working alarms.

There are approximately 3000 people that die from fires every year in the United States. On average 7 people die from a home fire every day. Half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 pm and 7 am when most people are asleep.

Three out of five home fire deaths happen from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

In an effort to improve fire safety in the Kalamazoo area, the American Red Cross in conjunction with local Fire Departments will install smoke alarms in your home for free. Simply call 269-353-6180 extension 7181 to schedule an installation.

This Saturday (5/9/2016), the American Red Cross will be to installing smoke alarms in homes on the east side of Kalamazoo. Call today for an installation.
