Loaded Handgun Located During Trespassing Investigation

April 7, 2016 by Matthew Huber

Kalamazoo, MI: On Thursday, April 7th, 2016, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers conducted a directed patrol in Fox Ridge Apartment’s due to recent reports of gunshots being fired.  During the patrol, officers approached an occupied vehicle and attempted to detain the occupants for a trespassing investigation.  The front seat passenger, a 30 year-old Kalamazoo resident, tried to push past officers and run from the car. Officers subdued the subject with a Taser and he was taken into custody without further incident. Officers searched the area immediately surrounding the suspect and  located a loaded 9mm handgun. The suspect was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail on the charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing arrest, felony firearm, trespassing and several outstanding warrants.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
