Two Officers Injured in Accident

April 3, 2016 by Matthew Huber

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, April 3rd, 2016, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to report of a single motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of S. Howard Street. Due to icy roads there were two additional crashes at the same location while officers were on scene investigating.  The officers were outside of their patrol vehicle at the time of the third crash and were struck by the involved vehicles. Both officers were transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The first officer sustained a head injury and is listed in stable condition. The second officer sustained injuries to his back and was treated and released.

The at-fault driver that struck the officers was found to be intoxicated and arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving on an expired license. The 22-year old Kalamazoo resident was lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
