No explosives found in suspicious package

February 29, 2016 by Spencer Bridges

Kalamazoo, MI: On 02-28-16 at approximately 2:00pm officers responded to Milham Park in reference to a suspicious package. A Citizen reported that they observed a male subject set down a duffle bag near playground equipment in the park, and then leave the park. The caller believed that the bag had been left at the location intentionally.

The bag was located by officers on their arrival and attempts were made to locate a possible owner, but were unsuccessful. Due to the suspicious nature of the bag the Kalamazoo Bomb Squad was requested to investigate.

Upon investigation by the Kalamazoo Bomb Squad it was determined the bag had no explosives in it, and instead contained snacks and children’s items. It’s believed the bag was left accidentally by an unknown person who was utilizing the park. The bag was taken as found property by Public Safety Officers and taken to Public Safety Headquarters where it can be claimed by its owner.

Public Safety is requesting anyone with information about this crime to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994, the Criminal Investigation Division at 337-8139, or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
