Truck Driver Suffers Apparent Heart Attack

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday, July 25th, 2012, at 9:24 p.m., Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Oshtemo Township Fire Department and the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 3900 block of S. 12th Street on a report of an accident involving a semi-truck. Upon arrival to the scene, responders found the driver of the semi-truck suffering from an apparent heart attack. Oshtemo Township firefighters began life saving measures on the 54 year-old driver, who was later transported to Bronson Hospital in critical condition. Witnesses reported that the semi-truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 131 when the medical incident occurred. The driver crossed the median and southbound lanes, narrowly avoiding vehicles traveling southbound on U.S. 131. The truck continued off the highway, eventually stopping in the grass behind the 12th Street Baptist Church. Kalamazoo Public Safety continues to investigate the incident.
