Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm and Drug Arrest

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, July 17th 2012 at approximately 10:58 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers Joe Boutell and Rich McCall conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle due to defective equipment in the 1000 block of W. North St. Upon contact with the occupants, officers encountered the strong odor of marijuana and observed open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle.

 

Officers detained the occupants and conducted a search of the vehicle locating a sizeable amount of heroin, marijuana, money and a loaded 9mm semi automatic handgun. A file check on the gun revealed that it was reported stolen out of Kalamazoo Township, MI.

 

A 20 year-old Kalamazoo resident is currently lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail on the charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen handgun, felony firearm, possession of marijuana, minor in possession of alcohol and three outstanding warrants. The investigation will be turned over to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office for review.
